Apophysis 2.05 is here!

Thu Sep 28, 2006, 10:37 AM
  • Mood: Cheerful
  • Listening to: Infinity Project
  • Playing: TES IV: Oblivion
At last! I thought this will never happen :D
The new Apophysis 2.05 looks good enough to be shown to public

Special thanks to our testers, who suffered from all kinds of strange program behaviour - all this time... :pills:

And now, maybe I can finally...

- go through all my unanswered messages? :reading:

- try to think of some titles for my unreleased works?

- and finally upload them? :deviation:

- continue my quest for saving the Tamriel empire? :pacman:

- get some sleep?

Ummm, I did notice a problem. I have a collection of gradients. When I tried to select one of them, it gave me a different gradient. Couldn't make it select the one I wanted nohow! You might want to look into this.

hmm, what are you doing, exactly?
loading gradients works fine for me here...

I was opening my list of private gradients, and double clicking on the one I wanted. I did discover that my private gradients have been incorporated into the regular dropdown list, but I don't know if they are all there, because I have several files. I should combine them, I suppose.

hmmm :| they shouldn't be incorporated into dropdown list, there's only 700 standard gradients in there

Well, I did find some of the gradients from my own list in there. Don't know why, though. I posted a comparison between Apo 2.04 and 2.05 in my scraps. Please take a look at it. It will show you the difficulty I am having (well, in part anyway). I hit on the idea to try adjusting the gamma today, and it doesn't fix the problem, though it improves it, but it still doesn't look like what I'm aiming for. But I suspect 2.05 is rendering with the gamma too high for starters. It looks like what it is doing also involves rendering far too many points. I know that earlier editions of Apo will do this, but they do it in a different way that enhances the detail instead of making it muddy. I also saw that 2.05 is doing something to the gradient. I have a collection of flames in one .flame file, and it messed up the gradients on each one, just from loading the file. I have to copy the gradient separately back into 2.04 and resave. That does correct the problem. I did discover that if I copy the .flame into 2.04, and then copy the gradient into 2.04, it reproduces faithfully. So I don't know what 2.05 is doing to the gradients. But if I make the mistake of opening the .flame file in 2.05 again, it will erase all the resaves of the gradient. In 2.05 they do preview correctly, but the renders, as I am showing, are very different from what I designed.

Thank you so much! Of course, there are some new and strange and probably wonderful things to learn about its rendering, starting with the white screen! I have been wondering if I can get away with rendering slices again!
